GIS/DATABASE PROGRAMMER

Anchor QEA, an environmental science and engineering consulting firm, is seeking a full-time GIS/DATABASE ANALYST in its Seattle, WA office.

The GIS/Database Analyst will be part of our Geographic Information System (GIS) Team and will be performing environmental data management and analysis. The Team supports over 200 environmental scientists, planners, and engineers.  Responsibilities include: querying relational databases (Access, SQL Server, and MySQL) to create personal geodatabases for use in the ArcGIS environment, creation of highly readable, accurate and aesthetically consistent maps displaying complex data and analyses, and clear communication with other members of large project teams. This position will also serve as an important link between our GIS and Database Management teams.  The position provides the opportunity to play a critical role in the development of new internal systems for managing project data and distribution of information for environmental cleanup projects, and to train other staff with varying expertise in GIS and database analysis.

Applicants must have a Bachelors degree in Geography, Environmental Studies, or related field, and 3 or more years of experience with ArcView and/or ArcInfo 9.x, (including Spatial Analyst, Geostatistical Analyst, 3-D Analyst and Maplex.  1-3 years experience managing data in MS Access, MS SQL Server and/ or Sun’s MySQL is also required.   A fundamental understanding of chemistry, analytical methods and chemical nomenclature relevant to environmental science and toxicology is required. Experience with Visual Basic for GIS and Database Applications and Arc Objects is a plus.

The successful candidate will also have outstanding oral, written and graphical communication skills and will be expected to work closely and effectively in a team environment and have the ability to meet tight schedules and demanding client expectations.  Qualified applicants must be able to perform detailed quality assurance and quality control on their work and the work of others.  Experience in generating statistical and geostatistical analyses of natural resource, environmental and chemical data is a plus.
